R 2024 Action/Comedy 2h 7m
Deadpool & Wolverine is the third movie in the “Deadpool” franchise and a semi-sequel to 2017’s Wolverine movie, Logan. If you haven't bothered to see any of those, you’re not likely the target audience for this movie. If you have seen those and are looking forward to seeing this one, you’re in luck, it’s a fun movie and will scratch your itch.
Deadpool and Wolverine share a history and an early incarnation of Deadpool appeared in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. However, Deadpool is known as the “Merc with a Mouth” and, in that movie, he didn’t have a mouth and couldn’t talk. Since Reynolds created his fast-talking, hard-R Deadpool franchise, fans have wanted to see the characters share the screen again. They finally get their wish here.
Both characters like to brawl and have the ability to heal quickly so they spend much of the film beating the bejeebers out of one another (and others) in a gory fashion with a pop music backdrop. Since they can both heal quickly, the gore feels more cartoonish because there aren’t any stakes. When Wile E. Coyote has a bomb blow up in his face, it's not as disturbing because we know he’ll be fine in a moment.
If you have heard a rumor about some actor having a cameo in the movie, you probably heard correctly. Deadpool & Wolverine heavily serves up cameos and MCU meta references. I won’t spoil any of the references.
Are there mid-credits or post-credits scenes? Great question. During the mid-credits, there is a collection of behind-the-scenes moments from the making of the X-Men movies and the first two Deadpool movies as a tribute to the now-departed 20th Century Fox. After the credits, there is a quick button where Deadpool defends himself for something that takes place in the movie.
Should you see the movie? If you liked the previous two Deadpools, yes. If you didn’t or didn’t see them, you probably have zero interest in the movie and likely haven’t even read this far in the review anyway.
