I’m a big fan of the Kung Fu Panda movie series. They are fun and funny. The first Kung Fu Panda movie came out sixteen years ago when my kids were little. They loved it and I did too. We’ve seen them all in the theater together and had fun at them all. KFP4 is no different. My kiddos are now in college and we still saw this together in the theater. We laughed out loud several times and had fun together. What else can you ask for in a movie? This is a great family movie.
Master Shifu (Dustin Hoffman) informs Po, the Kung Fu Panda (Jack Black), that the next step in Po’s journey is to pick a replacement as the next Dragon Warrior. New villain, The Chameleon (Viola Davis), has arrived on the scene with plans to steal the abilities of all the kung fu greats so that she can expand her criminal enterprise across the land and beyond. Normally, Po would lean on the Furious Five to help him thwart the evil-doer. However, they are all unavailable. I’m not sure if that is due to budgetary reasons, talent availability, or simple story-telling. As great as the Furious Five is, adding five additional characters would bloat the movie. Instead, Po is joined by Zhen, a crafty fox (Awkwafina), and his fathers Mr. Ping (James Hong) and Li (Bryan Cranston). Other vocal talent includes Ke Huy Quan, Ian McShane, and Ronny Chieng.
If you like movies about cartoon pandas, this is the movie for you.
