R 2023 Romance/Comedy 1h 45m
Let me start by saying I like Meg Ryan and I like David Duchovny. I had high hopes for this new romcom written and directed by Meg Ryan. It has gotten some great reviews.
Ryan and Duchovny play former lovers (both named W. Davis) who happen to find themselves snowed in at a regional airport. In some ways the movie is a "bottle episode" because it is set entirely inside a regional airport with few characters. By "few characters" I mean Ryan, Duchovny and the airport announcer. There are no other cast members. That might be okay except I didn't like either character. Not only was I not invested in the "will they/won't they get together" that is usually the driving force of a romcom, but at times I was kinda hoping they wouldn't get together.
I love a good romcom, but this was not one. It wasn't romantic. It wasn't funny. The characters were snowed in at the airport but I felt like I was trapped at the theater. I couldn't wait for them to catch their flights.
I saw this with my parents and, tip of the hat to my mom, she said her favorite part of the movie was Nicole Kidman welcoming us to AMC.
